22“The God of gods, Jehovah! The God of gods, Jehovah! He knows, and Israel will also know. If we were rebellious and unfaithful to Jehovah, do not spare us this day.

“신들의 하느님 여호와! 신들의 하느님 여호와! 그분이 알고 계시며 이스라엘도 알게 될 것입니다. 우리가 여호와께 반역하고 불충실했다면, 오늘 우리를 살려 두지 마십시오.

23If we built ourselves an altar to turn back from following Jehovah and to offer burnt offerings, grain offerings, and communion sacrifices on it, Jehovah will exact the penalty.

우리가 여호와를 따르지 않고 돌아서려고 제멋대로 제단을 쌓았다면, 그 위에 번제물과 곡식 제물과 친교 희생을 바치려고 그렇게 했다면, 여호와께서 벌을 주실 것입니다

여호와께서 우리와 너희 르우벤 사람들과 갓 사람들 사이에 요르단 강을 경계로 정해 주셨다. 너희는 여호와 안에서 몫이 없다’고 말하면서 우리 자손이 여호와를 숭배하지 못하게 할지도 모른다고 생각했던 것입니다.

26“So we said, ‘Let us by all means take action by building an altar, not for burnt offerings or sacrifices,

그래서 우리가 ‘제단을 쌓자’고 말했습니다. 이는 번제물이나 희생 제물을 위한 것이 아니라,

여러분과 우리 사이에 또 우리 뒤에 오는 후손들 사이에, 우리가 우리의 번제물과 희생 제물과 친교 희생으로 여호와를 위한 봉사를 그분 앞에서 드릴 것이라는 증거가 되게 하려는 것입니다. 그래서 훗날에 여러분의 자손이 우리 자손에게 ‘너희는 여호와 안에서 몫이 없다’고 말하지 못하게 하려는 것입니다.

’28So we said, ‘If they should say that to us and to our descendants in the future, we will then say: “See the replica of Jehovah’s altar that our forefathers made, not for burnt offerings or sacrifices, but to be a witness between you and us.”’

그래서 훗날에 그들이 우리에게나 우리 후손들에게 그렇게 말한다면 ‘우리 조상이 만든 여호와의 제단의 모형을 보아라. 이것은 번제물이나 희생 제물을 위한 것이 아니라, 너희와 우리 사이에 증거가 되게 하려고 만든 것이다’ 하고 대답할 생각이었습니다.

29It is unthinkable for us to rebel against Jehovah and to turn back today from following Jehovah by building an altar for burnt offerings, grain offerings, and sacrifices, other than the altar of Jehovah our God that is before his tabernacle!”

우리가 여호와께 반역하고 오늘 여호와를 따르지 않고 돌아서서, 그분의 장막 앞에 있는 우리 하느님 여호와의 제단 외에 번제물과 곡식 제물과 희생 제물을 위해 다른 제단을 쌓는다는 것은 생각할 수도 없는 일입니다!”

30When Phinʹe·has the priest, the chieftains of the assembly, and the heads of the thousands of Israel who were with him heard the words that the descendants of Reuʹben, Gad, and Ma·nasʹseh spoke, they were satisfied.

제사장 비느하스와 그와 함께 있던 회중의 수장들과 이스라엘 천인대의 우두머리들은 르우벤과 갓과 므낫세의 후손들이 하는 말을 듣고 흡족히 여겼다.
